Park West School

A New School Year 2018-2019

Late Registration:   The school office will be open for late registration on Wednesday, August 29, 9:00-12:00 / 1:00-4:00.  Children who live within the Park West School boundaries are eligible to attend this school.  If new neighbours with elementary/junior high aged children move into the area over the summer please encourage them to register on this date.  Proof of address, a birth certificate, and a Nova Scotia health card number are required to complete registration.

Back to School:  The first day of school for the 2018-2019 school year is Wednesday, September 5.  Students should arrive by 8:25 AM.  Parents and students must not enter the school building until the entrance bell rings at 8:25 AM.  Signs will be posted on exterior doors with directions for entry to the building and assemblies for class placement.  Next year we are hoping all students (and their parents) will make it their priority to be on time for school on a regular basis.    Our Protocol for Late Students will continue.

Class Lists:  Due to reasons of privacy and confidentiality we are no longer permitted to publicly post class lists.   Students will be assigned to their new classes when our doors open for a new school year on September 5th.   Parents and students should be aware that class lists are tentative.   It is highly likely many students will be moved to other classes, and teacher assignments at some grade levels will change after September 5.   These changes may be necessary due to increased enrollment at some grade levels, and in order to conform to class size caps mandated by the EECD.  At this time our enrollment for September, and beyond, is unpredictable.  Traditionally we have some students move away over the summer months, and we receive many new students at late registration in late August.  In September it may be necessary to reconfigure our classes and assign teachers to new grades/classes.  Class lists will not be finalized until early October.

Combined Grade Classes:  It is reasonble to expect there will be combined grade classes at Park West School for the 2018-2019 school year. It is also highly likely students will experience placement in  combined grade classes while attending Park West School.   Combined grade classes are created as a result of class size caps mandated by the EECD (Education and Early Childhood Development Dept.).  While it is preferred to have smaller classes, combined grade classes are often the resulting reality.  Research has shown there are many benefits to being in combined grade classes.

Are You Moving?  If your children attended Park West this year, but you’ll be moving away over the summer, please inform us as soon as possible.  We need to know if they won’t be here in September.  Call our school office at 457-7800 or email us at parkwest@hrsb.ca

Staying for Lunch Next Year?  All students who wish to remain at school over the lunch period for the 2018-19 school year must be registered for the lunch supervision program.  Registration forms are available from the school office.
